The crazy trials and escapes of John Henry Wells
In the long history of the Elgin Mental Health Center, there have been patients who believed they had been wrongfully committed. One of them, John Henry Wells, twice escaped from confinement, became a celebrity lecturing about "The Elgin Outrage," and after more than nine years was finally judged to be mentally competent.
