Get to the Theater

Michael Jackson is an icon. Fan or no fan, one can't help but walk out of "This Is It" and admire his stunning craftsmanship and dedication to his music. Even hard-core fans may be stunned at how meticulous he was as we're shown in this film. For a 50-year-old, his voice and movement is astonishing. This is a must-see for the fan of MJ who got robbed of seeing him perform the concert of this film. It brings you as close as possible to the event if he would have made it through.

Get to the Theater

OK, so I realize this week's review is probably not going to sway anyone. Either you like Michael Jackson, and you want to see it, or you don't. I happen to think Michael Jackson was the greatest dancer in the history of feet, and I'm still sad he died so young. This film is basically rehearsal footage and the making of a show that never was. He actually sings most of the songs and you get to see the genius at work, demanding perfection while arranging and choreographing a stage show to end all stage shows. It's heartbreaking, but it's awesome!

Wait for the DVD

A.J. JewisonThere's no doubt that Michael Jackson's death shocked the nation and the world. "This Is It" proves that Jackson was gearing for a comeback, which makes the matter even worse. The intimacy and tragedy of the subject make for an interesting, intriguing documentary; however, I find it difficult to believe anyone but the most devout Jackson fan will rush to see this film in the theater, because frankly I don't see the need. With all the Michael Jackson tribute shows on TV, there's really no need to see this movie now. Wait for the DVD, or catch it on TV in the future. It's good, but another tribute isn't going to change the way we feel about his death anytime soon.
