AUDITIONS

'Damn Yankees'

Schaumburg Summer Theatre will hold auditions for lead roles, supporting parts, dancers and chorus singers to be cast in the baseball-themed musical, Damn Yankees. Auditions will begin at 7 p.m. Monday, May 19, and Tuesday, May 20, at the Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court, Schaumburg. Auditions are open to all college and high school students, who should prepare a short vocal selection (one-verse chorus) and will be required to read from the script. Dance auditions will be held concurrently with vocal and reading auditions. Everyone auditioning will be required to dance. 'Once Upon a Mattress'

Youths ages 11 to 18 are invited to audition for Noble Fool Theatricals Performing Arts Academy's summer production of Once Upon a Mattress. Open auditions will be held from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Sunday, May 18, and 5-9 p.m. Monday, May 19, on the main stage at Pheasant Run Resort, 4051 E. Main St., St. Charles. Children should prepare and memorize a one-minute monologue and 16 bars of a song with sheet music. 'Hair'

Open auditions for Hemmens Cultural Center's Elgin Summer Theatre production of Hair will be from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, and Wednesday, May 14, in the lower level of the Hemmens, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin. 'Pirates of Penzance'

The Kane Community Opera group has announced auditions for its inaugural production, The Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan. 'Cabaret'

Elgin Community College Musical Theatre will hold auditions for the summer production of Cabaret, a musical made famous in the 1996 Broadway production and 1972 film. East meets West

Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley will present a musical performance by vocalist Summer Kwai and guitarist Steve Koerber. The two will interweave traditional Japanese music with American jazz for a performance at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Fabyan Japanese Garden in the Fabyan Forest Preserve, Illinois 31 at Fabyan Parkway, Geneva. Janus Theatre

Janus Theatre will present The Greatest Story eBertolt: A Brecht Review through May 18 at the Elgin Art Showcase, 164 Division St., Elgin. For this project, Sarafina Vecchio of Elgin adapted the material from Bertolt Brecht's writings. She will direct the show. In a collage of music, theater and poetry, six actors find themselves together in a rundown German café. With only their will and charisma, they tell the story of Brecht, a poet who found fame in Germany as a playwright, but because of his strong opposition to Hitler's ideas, he was forced to flee Germany only to find a new enemy. Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturdays and 6 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $15 general admission, $12 for students and seniors, and $10 for groups of eight or more. Noble Fool Theatricals

'Robin Hood, the Musical'
