Heritage Society's 'Antiques Roadshow' to help fund museum

May 4, 2008

The Kishwaukee Valley Heritage Society will host a local version of the popular PBS series Antiques Roadshow from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Genoa-Kingston High School on Illinois 72.

The school is handicapped-accessible and has ample parking.

Karen Holland, certified appraiser, will be on hand to look at visitors' antiques and offer her opinion. Appraisals will cost $5 each with a maximum of two items. Current heritage society members are allowed three items for $10. Spectators are welcome for a $1 entry per person.

Along with appraisals, society members will display their collections of antique tools and toys.

Holland is the owner of K & T Antiques, 810 E. Third St. in Sterling, where she buys and sells antiques and collectibles. She has been in the antiques business for 30 years. Along with being a certified antiques appraiser, Holland is a member of the American Society of Appraisers. Holland does public speaking, online auction services, estate liquidations and in-home appraisals.

She is qualified to do appraisals for legal and insurance needs. Anyone interested in visiting with her further is welcome to take a business card to contact her after the show, said society President Sandy Lyon.

"This program is not only a wonderfully entertaining and educational afternoon, it is also a fundraiser for the museum," Lyon said.

All proceeds benefit the nonprofit museum's general operating fund.

For more information on the event, call the museum at (815) 784-5559 or Lyon at (815) 895-6987.
