Emmett's takes silver in brewing competition

May 1, 2008

WEST DUNDEE -- Emmett's Tavern & Brewing Company won a silver medal in the recent World Beer Cup Competition.

The World Beer Cup award was presented to Emmett's Brewmaster Ryan Clooney and Head Brewer Rob Hunter in a ceremony in San Diego on April 26, with 1,600 brewery representatives from around the world attending.

Emmett's earned a silver medal for its Belgian style Dubbel Ale, competing against 25 other breweries in this category, several of them from Belgium and other European countries.

Clooney said, "I'm thrilled to receive this honor. However, I just knew it was an outstanding brew. I entered the Emmett's Belgian Dubbel because it has been so well-received by our guests in our restaurants. Now I know they were right.

"The Belgian Dubbel is dark in color and full in body. It is a substantial beer, with scents of light fruit, rich cocoa and a touch of raisins. The caramel malt provides a mild sweetness," he said.

The World Beer Cup competition, sponsored by the Brewers Association, is held every two years. Breweries are invited to enter beer to be judged by a panel of 130 judges. The competition involved 646 breweries representing 57 countries worldwide.

Emmett's has been brewing award-winning beer for the past nine years, having received seven medals in competition at the Great American Beer Festival and the World Beer Cup.
