Turnberry: An award-winning community with many amenities
LAKEWOOD -- It is a neighborhood often referred to as "Little Barrington" by those in the know, because of the quality of the custom-built homes and the award-winning amenities offered, according to RE/MAX Gateway broker/manager Karie Hottinger.
The Turnberry subdivision was started back in 1972 and is a privately owned golf course community. The community has been voted McHenry County's best country club for the past two years. The community's fine dining establishment, Turnberry, is staffed by professional chefs who have been trained in France and Austria. Last year, the fine dining establishment acquired the titles of best banquet hall and best in fine dining in McHenry County as well, according to Hottinger.
The neighborhood offers activities and fun for all ages. There is an 18-hole championship golf course and driving range, a swimming pool, four tennis courts and four stocked lakes that are brimming with fish for those who enjoy casting a line on a warm summer's day. The clubhouse offers many amenities for residents, and the banquet hall can be rented for special events.
The average home price in the development is about $670,000, with the top-end list price coming in at about $2 million. In addition to resale options, there are many lots available in the community for those who wish to build their own dream home from scratch. There is a lot of variety in the sizes of the homes as well, with the smallest coming in at about 2,600 square feet and the largest topping out at a massive 7,000 square feet.
The neighborhood is one where folks drive around in golf carts, participate in community Easter egg hunts and gather on Thursdays for family night at the restaurant.
