Carillon at Cambridge Lakes goes 'green' inside and out

May 10, 2008

Carillon at Cambridge Lakes, an active adult resort community in Pingree Grove, incorporates energy and water efficiency, resource efficient building design and materials and indoor environmental quality, all of which are important components of "green" building.

"Between the mechanical ventilation equipment and Energy Star Homes components, every home provides healthy air quality, enhanced comfort and optimal energy efficiency," said Paul F. Ivers, president of Cambridge Homes.

"For water conservation, the entire community, including the neighboring traditional neighborhoods of Cambridge Lakes, utilizes an environmentally sound water reclamation process to irrigate the numerous acres of landscaped open space," Ivers said. "All of this adds up to an environmentally friendly and green community, which is a particularly important attribute today."

Carillon at Cambridge Lakes includes 405 acres and is planned for 1,297 ranch style homes among three series, as well as 129 acres of open space. The community features maintenance-free living and will include a community clubhouse with a variety of social and fitness amenities such as an indoor and outdoor pool, as well as tennis and bocce ball courts, horseshoes, walking trails, a three-hole golf course, a community garden and a play area for visiting grandchildren.

All Carillon at Cambridge Lakes, homes will include mechanical ventilation equipment to provide healthy air quality. One component is a silent ventilator that runs on a timer to exhaust stagnate indoor air and helps the home mitigate unwanted moisture for improved indoor air quality. This ventilator also helps keep the relative humidity within recommended levels for durability issues of the building structure. Another ventilator works with the furnace to bring in controlled fresh outside air to further enhance indoor air quality.

Additionally all homes will be Energy Star-certified to meet the highest possible Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Energy Star Homes program guidelines, which require homes to be at least 50 percent more energy efficient than called for by the 2004 International Energy Conservation Code.

Energy Star-certified homes are built with a number of energy saving materials and are designed and engineered so that all of the components are integrated for optimum efficiency. One end result is every homeowner will pay substantially lower utility bills. Another end result is improved comfort with better regulated heating and cooling distribution throughout the entire home, Ivers said.

"These Energy Star certified homes are resource efficient, not only because they require less gas and electricity, but each home employs panelized construction so that lumber waste is minimized," he said.

In addition to providing the best possible in home living environments in Carillon at Cambridge Lakes, Cambridge Homes is at the forefront of water efficiency. Cambridge was instrumental in providing the Village of Pingree Grove with a new state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant serving all of Carillon at Cambridge Lakes and Cambridge Lakes, as well as the surrounding area.

Sanctioned by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), this advanced wastewater treatment plant processes up to one million gallons of wastewater daily. Once treated, the reclaimed water is a valuable resource and important means of water conservation at the Cambridge Lakes' communities. The reclaimed water is pumped from the treatment plant to irrigate the open spaces from April through November to create a vibrant landscape. The irrigation system also helps to sustain the aquifers in the community's lakes.

Carillon at Cambridge Lakes features 13 different ranch-style plans among three home series including freestanding single-family homes, attached single-family homes and townhouses. New home shoppers can tour 11 professionally appointed model homes.

Carillon at Cambridge Lakes is next to Cambridge Lakes, a community planned for 2,995 homes with numerous amenities itself.

"Carillon at Cambridge Lakes is designed for active adults who want all the advantages of living in a resort style community with others who share similar interests, while being able to live near their children and grandchildren. This new Carillon community promotes multi-generational living with the active adult and traditional neighborhoods of Cambridge Lakes so close to each other," Ivers said. Cambridge Homes
