It's Lockport by a Hir in SWS Blue
BOLINGBROOK -- Things could not have been any closer in Thursday's SouthWest Suburban Blue Conference high school boys track and field meet.
Lockport and Bolingbrook battled it out for top honors before the championship was decided in the final event, which was the triple jump.
The Porters' Mike Hir jumped 42-6½ on his final jump to move past the Raiders Corve Smith (42-4¾) to move into second place in the event.
As a result of the four-point swing, Lockport edged defending champion Bolingbrook 114-112 for the championship.
"The kids did well today and we got a lot of good performances across the board," Lockport coach Tom Razo said.
"We don't have the sprinters like Bolingbrook does, but we scored in almost every event. Our balance really helped us out."
Leading the way for the Porters was senior Kyle Engnell, who won titles in the 800 (2:03.1) and the 1600 (4:30.7).
Steve Monte also won two events for the Porters, taking first in the high jump (6-0) and pole vault (13-3).
Also winning a title for Lockport was Abe Omar in the 300 hurdles (38.7).
Bolingbrook was paced by Kayode Adegoke, who won the 100 (10.7) and 200 (21.4). He also ran on a pair of winning relays -- the 400 (43.7) and 800 (1:29.8) along with Ken Campbell and Robert Gilmore.
The Raiders also received titles from Devin Abdullah in the triple jump (43-7) and Martel Rudd in the 400 (54.0).
Smith also won the title in the 110 hurdles (15.0) and the Raiders also captured the 1600 relay (3:29.8).
"We knew from the seeding that this meet would be very close, but that Lockport would have the edge," Bolingbrook coach Art Pahl said.
