Offseason comes early for Chicago: Sox ousted

Chicago went from having two baseball teams in the playoffs to having none very quickly as the White Sox were eliminated today by the Tampa Bay Rays. Tampa won 6-2 to clinch the ALDS 3-1 and will move on to face the winner of the Red Sox-Angels series. The Sox join the Cubs as first-round losers, although the South Siders exceeded the expectations of many just to get to the postseason.

Bolingbrook stays undeafeated with 14-3 win

Lincoln-Way Central ran the ball and the clock and built and 3-0 lead in a high school football matchup between Southwest Suburban Blue rivals Friday night at Lashmet Field. And the Knights' lead could have been bigger. Twice they marched deep into Bolingbrook territory before the Raiders turned the tide in the second half to gain a 14-3 victory.

Undefeated Raiders working on passing game

With a defense that hasn't allowed a point in eight quarters, a team that is plus-10 in turnover margin and a rushing game that averages 6.6 yards an attempt, the Bolingbrook Raiders haven't thrown the ball too much. There have been big plays here and there, but mainly as a change of pace, not as the main attraction.

Raiders rip up Joliet

On the second play of the game, the Bolingbrook defense set the tone and greeted the area's leading quarterback, Joliet Township's Justin Stephenson, with an interception. Raiders defensive back Alex McNulty's takeaway gave the Raiders the ball at the Steelmen 29-yard line. Bolingbrook went on to beat Joliet 48-0 and preserve its unbeaten status.

There couldn't be a more traditional homecoming opponent For Bolingbrook than Joliet Township. Down on their luck for most of recent history, the Steelmen have won five of their past 36 games. That includes last week's win over St. Ignatius that snapped a 17-game losing streak. Joliet went winless in 2007 and 2005.
