Briefs: Donation drive for veterans planned

The Bolingbrook American Legion Post/Auxiliary Unit 1288 will conduct its annual Gifts to the Yanks Who Gave donation drive Nov. 6 to 8 in Bolingbrook.

The drive will be held at Walmart, Jewel/Osco, the Bolingbrook post office, AMF Bolingbrook Lanes (Nov. 6 only) and major intersections in Bolingbrook.

For the past 60 years the American Legion has been dedicated to helping hospitalized Illinois veterans. The Gifts to the Yanks Who Gave program ensures that every hospitalized war veteran in Illinois is remembered at Christmas with a gift.

Tree lighting ceremony scheduled for Nov. 14

The official holiday tree lighting ceremony in Bolingbrook is set for 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at The Promenade shopping center.

The ceremony will be the grand finale of a fest to run from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Village Green at The Promenade.

The event will also be the beginning of this year's Symphony in Lights music and lights feature at the shopping center.

Craft show in Bolingbrook

The Bolingbrook Park District will host its 24th annual craft show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Annerino Community Center in Bolingbrook.

The event will feature handmade items from more than 50 crafters. For information, call 630-739-0272.

Fitness group will meet in Bolingbrook

The Women of Abundance weight loss and fitness group meets from 9 to 10 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Bolingbrook Fire Station 4, 1111 W. Boughton Road in Bolingbrook.

The Anime Club for teens will meet at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at Fountaindale Public Library, 300 W. Briarcliff Road in Bolingbrook.

Participants will practice drawing techniques, discuss the latest anime books and movies and more.

Holiday cooking in the spotlight

Chef Michael Niksic will discuss classic holiday side dishes at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 at Fountaindale Public Library in Bolingbrook.

'Twilight' trivia contest

The "Ultimate Twilight Trivia Contest" will be held at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at Fountaindale Public Library in Bolingbrook.
