Big night for Kiwanis Club
Jim Barber installed as Kiwanis president, top members honored
The Kiwanis Club of Bolingbrook and Romeoville honored community members and installed new officers at the group's annual dinner Oct. 29 at Senior Star at Weber Place.
Jim Barber of Romeoville will serve as the club's new president, succeeding Cliff Canaday, who becomes the immediate past president. Canaday has been president since the club was founded seven years ago.
Sandy Devos will continue as secretary and Darryl McCormick was installed as treasurer. McCormick, Maureen Wood and Larry Randa were elected to new terms on the board of directors.
Tri County Special Recreation's Peter Pope was named Kiwanian of the Year for spearheading the launch of the Aktion Club, while Romeoville High School transition program specialist Laura Bargas received the Distinguished Service Award for her involvement in the launching of the Aktion Club.
April Vacik, Stacy Soliday, Jim and Mary Grant, Barber, Mary Buchanan and Kathy Ochromowicz all received Youth Service Awards. Randa was chosen Outstanding New Member. John Barbush earned a Best Shot Award
The gathering was attended by Kiwanis International Immediate Past President Don Canaday and Kiwanis District 21 Lt. Gov. Vicki Howell.
The Kiwanis Club of Bolingbrook-Romeoville meets at noon on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at Bolingbrook Golf Club, 2001 Rodeo Drive in Bolingbrook. Anyone interested in joining may call 815-886-9023.
