Peterson all jokes on radio show
JOLIET — No matter what he did to third wife Kathleen Savio or fourth wife Stacy Peterson, Drew Peterson wasn't killing anyone with his standup comedy routine on the radio Thursday.
Peterson, jailed and facing murder charges in connection with Savio's death, called in collect to Mancow Muller's show on WLS to tell some jokes.
Mancow mentioned that Peterson's attorney, Joel Brodsky, promised Peterson would deliver some of his comedic stylings over the phone.
Peterson gets credit for trying, but that's about it.
Peterson, who is also the sole suspect in what the state police termed the "potential homicide" of fourth wife Stacy, fell flat as he riffed on the jailhouse blues, complaining that his "cuddling abilities have been taken away" and asking Muller to help him find love.
"I know we can't do the date with Drew anymore," Peterson said. "But I'm thinking what we should do is like, win a conjugal visit with Drew. Let's do that."
Peterson went on to joke about prison showers and other issues.
Talking to the media
Peterson is due back in court June 17, and with any luck, might reprise his comedy act as he is led from a county paddy wagon, just as he did before his arraignment May 8.
On his way into the courthouse that day, Peterson screamed for reporters to "look at his bling" as he lifted his manacled hands. Peterson loved the joke so much he told it again on the radio, saying, "I get my bling coming and going out of the courthouse."
But not everything in jail is funny. Peterson said the showers are cold, the jail is cold, the "food is different," he misses grooming his mustache and nose hairs, and that the detention facility staff determines what TV programs he gets to see.
"I got to watch what they watch," he said. "If I got the lady guards, I got to watch soaps. If the guy guard's around, we watch sports."
