Cadets sweep doubleheader

The Marmion Academy baseball team swept a doubleheader from Streator on Saturday.

The Cadets took the opener 9-7 in eight innings and the nightcap 3-1.

In Game 1, Matt Milroy went 3-for-4 with a homer, two doubles and three RBIs.

Dave DeSimone (4-1) picked up the win on the mound and also went 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored.

Allen Kus (3-0) pitched five innings of one-run ball in Game 2. He struck out nine and walked three. Downers Grove South 11, Kaneland 9 -- Brian Claesson went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs for the Knights (16-11).

Teammate Jody Henningson finished 2-for-5 with three runs scored.

Montini 17, Sandwich 8 -- Matt Cervantes had two hits, including a homer, three runs scored and two RBIs for the Indians (16-16).

Plainfield North 14, West Aurora 5 -- Brady Renner, Kyle McCradic and D.J. Smith all homered for the Blackhawks (16-16) in the loss.

Ottawa 7-0, Oswego East 0-1 -- Ashley Michalek fired a two-hit shoutout with eight strikeouts to help Oswego East (7-22) earn the doubleheader split.

Ottawa's Shaleigh Jansen threw a perfect game against the Wolves in the opener.

Naperville Central 8, Oswego 0 -- Kelsye Miller had a double for Oswego (2-26), the team's only hit.

Sycamore 2, Sandwich 1 -- Jen Robinson had two hits and scored two runs for Sandwich.

Westmont 13, Aurora Christian 3 -- Aurora Christian fell in the championship game of the Westmont Regional.

Megan Cryder was 2-for-3 with a double and a run and Eryn Glassman had a double and an RBI for Aurora Christian.
