East's Okapal shuts out Panthers

Dan Okapal notched 11 strikeouts as East Aurora won its second game of the year with a 3-0 shutout of Oswego. Tom Okapal had two hits and two RBIs for the Tomcats (2-22) while Andy Corral also drove in a run and ended the game with an unassisted double play.

Oswego East 14, Sandwich 8 -- Brendan Griffin had a grand slam and five RBIs for East, while Brad Crackel had two hits -- including a homer -- and two RBIs. Joe Johnson and Matt Johnson drove in two runs apiece for Sandwich.

Immaculate Conception 9, Indian Creek 8 -- At the Somonauk Class 1A regional, IC scored five runs in the top of the seventh to force extra innings and tacked on the game-winner in the eighth. Greg Hess went 3-for-3 for Indian Creek and Clayton Anderson hit a 2-run homer and had four RBIs.

West Chicago 6, West Aurora 4 -- Kyle McCradic homered and drove in a run for West, Jeff Etter had two hits and an RBI and Cory Walden added two hits.

Girls softball

Kaneland 5, Batavia 4 -- Vicki Mathieu had two hits and four RBIs to lead Kaneland while Sara Rose chipped in with two hits.

Girls soccer

Geneva 1, Benet 0 -- Bri Santacaterina scored the lone goal for geneva Geneva at the 21:14 mark in the second half as Geneva captured the Rosary Class AA regional title. The Vikings move on to play Waubonsie Valley at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Waubonsie Valley sectional.

Boys track

Seneca Class A Sectional -- Indian Creek placed fifth as a team with 40 points, Mooseheart was sixth with 38 and Aurora Christian eighth with 34. Reed-Custer won the team title with 138 points.

Seger Larson finished fourth in the triple jump (42-4) and sixth in the long jump (21-2) to qualify for the state meet in both events for Indian Creek, Randall Makarrall won the high jump with a leap of 6-6, while Justin Wassman was third in the triple jump (42-11).

Mike Tovar finished second in the long jump (22-1) to qualify for state for Mooseheart, while Floyd Mays was second in the 100 in 11.556. The Red Ramblers will also be sending its 400 relay team, which finished second in 45.18.

Dylan Melody won the 400 for Aurora Christian in 51.873 to advance, and Brandon Oest was second in the high jump (6-3). Ryan Lippert of Hinckley-Big Rock advanced in two events, winning the 300 hurdles (42.147) and finishing second in the the 110 hurdles (16.486).

Rock Island Class AA Sectional -- Kaneland scored 52 points to finish second to East Moline United (129 points). Phil Christensen won the discus with a throw of 171-10 for Kaneland and placed second in the shot put (53-8) to advance in both events. The Knights also finished second in the 800 (1:29.14) and 1600 (3:27.55) relays, with Logan Markuson placing third in the pole vault (13-9) Area Roundup
