Kyle Schalz tossed a one-hitter as Rosary captured the Suburban Catholic conference title with a 7-0 win over Aurora Central. Shalz finished with 15 strikeouts on the day for the Royals, now 13-10 overall and 12-2 in league play. Brenda Rocha paced Rosary at the plate with three RBIs, Jessica Fortier added two RBIs and Schalz had two hits.
Wheaton Warrenville South 8, Waubonsie Valley 5 -- Ally Seplak had a double and drove in three runs to lead Waubonsie.
Somonauk 6-4, Putnam County 2-11 -- Alexa Smith had two hits and three RBIs for Somonauk in game one, while Paula Tuttle drove in two runs. Megan Cyr had two hits in the nightcap and Paige Hochstatter added two RBIs.
Genoa-Kingston 1-5, Plano 0-2 -- Austi Stavitski had two hits for Plano in game two.
Somonuk 10, Putnam County 0 -- Scott Powers (8-1) tossed a no-hitter as the Bobcats closed out the regular season with their 16th straight win. Powers also struck out 10 batters and helped his own cause at the plate with a homer and three RBIs. Brock Kartheiser also had two hits and drove in three runs.
Yorkville 9-7, Oswego 4-13 -- Josh Cook had the big hit for Yorkville in game one with a grand slam, while Nate Messinger added two hits and an RBI and Max Carey stroked two hits. Kevin Zmuda and A.J. Quinones both homered and had two RBIs for Oswego. Ryan Prinzing had three hits and five RBIs in the nightcap, with Zmuda chipping in two hits and three RBIs.
Kaneland 11, Lemont 5 -- Mike Pritchard and Alex Norman paced the Kaneland offense with two hits and three RBIs apiece.
Ottawa Tournament -- Kevin Day had two hits and five RBIs as Plano earned a 16-1 win over Newman to finish in third place. Johnny Simmons had two hits and drove in four runs for Plano, with Dan Peruski picking up three hits and an RBI. Mike Kerr had two hits in the Reapers' 11-1 loss to Marquette.
Marquette beat Sandwich in the championship game, 8-4. Matt Cervantes had two hits and an RBI for Sandwich, while Ryan Kiest drove in two runs. The Indians defeated Newman by a 6-2 score in their first game, with Matt Johnson driving in two runs.
Waubonsee (24-29) will need two wins over Joliet today to advance to the NJCAA World Series. The first game will begin at noon. Area Roundup
