Oswego, PFC tie for Southwest Prairie title

Oswego finished with four conference champions and tied Plainfield Central for first place with 26.5 points at the Southwest Prairie conference meet Saturday.

Collin McWethy (first singles) and Matt McGowan (second singles) both took first place for the Panthers, while the doubles teams of Matt Smith and Dan Pitts (first doubles), and Joe Lombardi and Sean Wollenberg (second doubles) won their respective titles. Bobby Ansani and Zach Davis placed second at No. 4 doubles.

Oswego East finished third in the league standings with 16 points.

Suburban Catholic Conference -- Marmion Academy finished second to St. Francis. The Cadets and Spartans were represented in four of the five finals matches, with Mike Rios and Taylor Weis winning at second doubles for Marmion. Tom Weiler (first singles) placed second for the Cadets, as did the doubles teams of Bubba Weiler and Bobby Fortier (first doubles) and John Mason and Mike Duefel (second doubles).

DuPage Conference -- West Aurora did not score at the event. They finished with seven points to finish in seventh place.

Upstate Eight Conference -- The Neuqua Valley boys tennis team claimed its eighth straight league title this weekend in Naperville. Neuqua scored 103 points to distance itself from St. Charles North's 89 points. Waubonsie Valley was third with 82 points.

On the singles side, Waubonsie's Mandela Shepard beat St. Charles North's John Mittvick 6-4, 6-1 to claim the No. 1 singles championship.

All four Neuqua doubles squads earned first-place finishes.

The Wildcats' No. 1 doubles team consisting of Skeeter Plowman and Chase Perry dispatched St. Charles North's David Johnson and Christian Hoskey in less than an hour with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

Neuqua's No. 3 doubles team featuring Andy Frandsen and Tyler Wall beat Waubonsie's Greg Keating and Bryan Miguel 6-3, 6-2.
