AURORA -- Against Immaculate Conception pitcher Jose Godinez, there was very little margin of error for Aurora Central Catholic.
Godinez pitched a complete-game shutout, and four Charger errors turned a tight game into a 7-0 victory for IC in Suburban Catholic Conference action.
ACC fell to 10-12 overall and 2-10 in the conference with the defeat, while the Knights improved to 8-17 and 3-10.
Ken Litrenta pitched well for Aurora Central over four innings, but a pair of walks and his error on a double steal led to two runs in the second inning.
Shaky defense also hurt the Chargers in the fourth inning. After Steve Gilbert's RBI single widened the Knight lead to 3-0, David Luna couldn't handle Pat Wondrak's throw to second base on an attempted force play. Frank Carpanzano's double to the center-field fence knocked in a run, and the Knight lead went to 5-0 on a groundout by Matt McMahon (two hits, RBI, run).
Both of Immaculate Conception's runs in the seventh inning were unearned.
Meanwhile, Godinez scattered three hits while walking two. His only jam came in the third when Aurora Central had two runners on with one out. But Chad Roscoe was cut down at the plate on an infield grounder and catcher Kyle Edwards also grounded out.
"We didn't put good swings on the baseball, and there were a lot of opportunities to do so," said Aurora Central head coach Michael Armato. "A lot of that, you have to give credit to their pitcher."
Roscoe, Litrenta, and Edwards had the three singles for the Chargers. Chase Weber relieved Litrenta and pitched two scoreless innings, while Bill Balderis got his curve ball over consistently in the seventh inning.
