Wheaton Warrenville South scored 11 consecutive points behind the serving of middle blocker Robert Samp in the second game of Tuesday's DuPage Valley Conference volleyball match against West Aurora.

The Blackhawks (1-9, 0-5) fell to the Tigers in two games 25-14, 25-11.

The first game started off quickly in favor of the Tigers (12-3, 4-1) as setter Joseph Kelly served up four aces on five serves, with Samp getting a kill in between and outside hitter Neill Nystrom finishing the streak with a kill, to put the Tigers up 6-0.

The Blackhawks struggled to get back into it, but got their first point when libero Michael Her dug out a spike and middle blocker Kyle Pilmer smacked it over the net, getting a kill and their first point. The Tigers countered with a kill by opposite hitter Eric Hardek to make the score 7-1.

Both teams went back and forth with the Blackhawks scoring 10 and the Tigers putting up nine of their own to make the score 16-11. The Tigers proceeded from there, outscoring the Blackhawks 9-3 to finish the match and get the victory.

West Aurora's Pilmer finished the match with four kills and one block. Enrique Figueroa contributed two points off a set that went over and a tip that managed to land between several Tigers players. Mason Walgrave also contributed two blocks for the Blackhawks.

Kelly led the way for the Tigers, earning four aces and assisting five times, making him apart of nine points. Vincent Kania contributed to the victory with three kills, and Nystrom earned one block and scored twice with two kills.

"We played a really good match against them the first game," said West Aurora head coach Jen Towers. "We had a lot of intensity out there, moving around, talking and played really well. The second game we let down a little and got behind in the middle of the game. We lost the intensity and focus."

Game 2 started off with the Tigers jumping out to a 3-0 lead behind two kills by Hardek and one by Nystrom. The Blackhawks came right back, scoring four straight points of their own on two miscues by the Tigers, a kill by setter Vinni Soto and another kill by Pilmer after a nice dig by Her.

The Tigers countered right away, evening the score a 4-4 after an assist by outside hitter Kevin Mueller which led to a kill by Hardek.

But then the Tigers took off, scoring 11 unanswered points behind the serving of Samp to make the score 17-5 in their favor. The bleeding stopped when Samp served the ball into the net, handing it over to the Blackhawks and making the score 17-6.

"It wasn't the best we've done but we got it done in practice yesterday and worked extra hard to make sure we didn't have an upset," said Samp. "We got in, did our work, and got the bench in as much as possible and it went off from there."

West Aurora then scored a quick point behind a nice bump-assist-kill sequence by Soto, Walgrave and Figueroa. The Tigers finished off the match by outscoring West Aurora 5-3, ending on a serve into the net by the Blackhawks' Figueroa, making the score 25-11.

The 11 points scored by the Blackhawks were evenly distributed among five players with one each, and the rest coming from errors on the Tigers side.

Hardek led the way in match two for the Tigers with one block and four kills, followed by Kelly with three assists and one kill.

"I think we did a pretty good job of being focused and as we get back into the conference matches we know that we need to play aggressive and I thought we took care of that," said Tigers' coach Bill Schreier.
