NAPERVILLE – St. Charles East failed to score until the fourth quarter and lost 28-7 on Friday to the state's No. 4-ranked team, Naperville North, which built on three second-quarter touchdowns Friday night in Naperville.
North quarterback Matt LaCosse led the Huskies (2-0) to a 21-0 halftime lead. LaCosse connected with James O'Shaughnessy on a 14-yard touchdown pass for the game's first score, then optioned 1-yard for another touchdown. Idris Hanidu ran 18 yards for the early 21-0 advantage.
In the third quarter, LaCosse optioned again, this time for a 26-yard touchdown run. Leading 28-0, St. Charles East hit the scoreboard on a two-yard run by Matthew Payne.
LaCosse rushed for 68 yards on the night and added another 104 on 13
of 31 passing. Hanidu led the Huskies with 154 yards rushing. Chase
Quinn added 97 yards on the ground.
Matthew Payne (7 carries, 31 yards) scored East's lone touchdown with 1:08 left in the contest on a 2-yard run.
East quarterback Nolan Possley threw for 25 yards on 6-for-13 passing including an interception. He also ran for 63 yards on 20 carries.
Tight end Jess Stiedl had three catches for 24 yards and linebacker Philip Bucaro recorded 11 tackles.
The defeat drops St. Charles East to 0-2.
