If questions still remained about the validity of a Waubonsie Valley playoff appearance, the Warriors answered those questions Friday in the team's sixth straight win: a 51-13 thumping of Larkin in Aurora.
The win guarantees the Warriors a postseason slot in Class 8A. The pairings will be announced tonight.
Waubonsie entered the second half up seven but turned it on the last two quarters, outscoring the Royals 37-6. The Warriors (6-3, 5-1 Upstate Eight Conference) gained 149 second-half yards compared with 78 for Larkin (4-5, 3-4).
Quarterback Tyler Castro led the attack for Waubonsie, going 12-for-17 for 112 yards and three touchdowns, and running in from 4 yards for another score. Castro's touchdown passes were thrown to three different receivers: Mark Hilgers, Alex Stokowski and Scott Kuehn.
Waubonsie's other scores came on a Ken Clay 38-yard touchdown run, a Perry Levin 72-yard kickoff return, a Maurice Bowman 8-yard run and a safety.
Six Waubonsie runners combined for 153 yards on the ground.
