Raiders run by Knights with rally
Kaneland dominated the first two quarters, but it was a much different tone in the second half as Glenbard South came from behind to stun the Kaneland homecoming crowd by running away with a 47-28 victory.
Knights' quarterback Jody Henningson and his teammates were as explosive as the halftime fireworks. Henningson completed 17 of the 26 passes in the half for 216 yards and used six different receivers in the process. The quarterback had a spectacular night that went in vain. Henningson finished a 33-of-51 performance with 338 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed 20 times for another 231 yards and three touchdowns.
Korey Maple, Jamie Snyder, Brian Claesson, and Ryley Bailey combined for 205 receiving yards in the firsta half, and Henningson rushed for two of his scores before intermission. Maple would finish with 15 receptions for 120 yards, and Bailey caught five passes for 81 yards. Snyder made four receptions for 58 yards, and Claesson had three catches for 34 yards. David Dudzinsky and Blake Kendrick also caught three passes each.
Despite the great offensive performance in the half, Henningson was stopped near the goal line as time expired in the second quarter as he tried to extend a one-point lead. Kaneland (2-4, 1-3 Western Sun) had to settle for a slim 14-13 margin at intermission, even though the Knights outgained the Raiders 322 total yards to 137.
That might have proved the key play of the game as Glenbard South (4-2, 2-2) seized the momentum in the third quarter.
Running back Mike Oratowski rushed for three scores to give the Raiders the lead at 33-14, and the Knights were unable to recover from there.
Korey Maple caught an 8-yard touchdown early in the fourth, and Henningson scampered for a 85-yard score, but those plays only got Kaneland as close as 12 points.
Kaneland tried an onside kick after the Henningson touchdown, but Glenbard recovered. Two plays later, Oratowski scored his sixth touchdown from 55 yards away to give the Raiders their final margin. He finished with 192 yards on 19 carries.
The two teams combined for 1,044 yards of offense. Kaneland finished with 578 yards, and Glenbard South had 466 with 295 of those coming on the ground. Glenbard South 47, Kaneland 28
