St. Charles North cruises past East Aurora

September 11, 2009

For the first time in school history, the St. Charles North football team has started the season 3-0. The North Stars won their first Upstate Eight Conference game of the season, 55-6 over host East Aurora on Friday.

"It's a great feeling," said St. Charles North coach Mark Gould, who has been with the program since the beginning (eight varsity seasons). "In the past, we've always had that loss somewhere right in the beginning. That loss gives you focus, and now it's a different type of motivation to keep focused. It's going to get tougher from now on."

The North Stars scored 20 points in the first quarter on Jordan Huxtable's 33-yard run, Connor Mohs' 44-yard run and Matt Shiltz' 1-yard run -- all in the final 4:31 of the quarter.

St. Charles North matched the effort in the second on Jeff Stolzenburg's 44-yard run, another carry from Huxtable (10 yards) and Dirk Schmitt's 4-yard run -- all in the first 8 minutes of the quarter.

The only time the Tomcats (0-3, 0-1) scored was in the third, thanks to Tinard Thompson's 5 yard run with 14.6 left.

"In the second half, we were able to do some things we wanted to do," East Aurora coach Bill Bryant said. "That's a positive thing for the kids."

Ryan Jones scored the North Stars' final two touchdowns in the final frame. The North Stars have won the first three games by an average of 33 points. The win over the Tomcats was their largest of the season.
