Ramblers' effort comes up short

Mooseheart went into halftime of Saturday's game with Hope Academy trailing just 8-0, but Hope scored 20 unanswered points in the third quarter and rolled to the 35-6 win.
"We played a great first half, I thought," Mooseheart coach Gary Urwiler said. "I thought we made some adjustments (in the second half) that were going to work all right, but it just didn't work our way (Saturday)."
Mooseheart trailed 35-0 into the fourth quarter but avoided the shutout with 8:22 left in the game when Jonell Crump caught a 5-yard pass from quarterback Ethan Grasty. Senior Blake Mason had a breakout game for the Ramblers, catching five passes for 69 yards.
Freeport Invitational -- Kaneland scored 31 points and took five of the first 10 spots in the finishing order to take first place over Winnebago (40), with Rock Falls finishing third with 121. Paul Davies covered the 3-mile course in 16:03 to finish third for Kaneland, while Dominic Furco (16:06) and Logan Markuson (16:15) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Freeport Invitational -- Kaneland had 89 points and placed third in the meet behind Winnebago (42 points) and Rock Falls (79). Andie Strang finished 12th in 19:42 to lead Kaneland.
Private School League Tournament -- Aurora Christian finished with a team score of 342 to place third, with Wheaton Academy winning the title with 310 points. Bryce Renninger shot an 83 to finish tied for sixth for the Eagles, while Jake Ettelbrick had an 85 to finish in 10th.
Geneva 6, Wheaton North 2 -- Shawn Sloan and Ben Orr each scored two goals to pace Geneva, while Brady Wahl and Matt Blake also found the back of the net.
Somonauk d. Hinckley-Big Rock, 12-25, 25-14, 25-19 -- Jill Ferguson had eight kills to pace Somonauk and Lauren Gifford had seven kills, four aces and three blocks. Melissa Herrmann had 11 points and two aces for the Royals, Cassie Kroner added nine points and Jenna Thorp had 16 blocks and 10 digs.
Newark d. Streator-Woodland, 25-12, 25-17 -- Sam Akre led Newark with 12 kills and four blocks, Laura Johnson had 23 assists and seven points, Sammi Eddy had nine digs and six points and Miranda Schmidt had 11 points.
Waubonsee 3, South Suburban 0 -- Sara Merker scored two goals and notched an assist for Waubonsee, while Aryn McCoy also scored. Alanna Russo had three saves for the shutout.
Aurora 6, Maranatha 0 -- Jessica Novickas had two goals and an assist for Aurora, Nikki Counsell had a goal and an assist, while Heather Skeen and Tracy Swain also scored.
Aurora 2, Maranatha 1 -- Chase Corricelli had two goals for Aurora to move within one score of Hernan Campuzano's school record, while Anthony Amedia and Justin Pedersen each had an assist.
Aurora University d. Edgewood, 25-10, 25-18, 24-26, 25-10 -- Jill Smart led AU with 24 kills, six digs and three blocks, Tanya Wilhoit had 14 kills and four blocks and Cortni Ramm had 42 assists and 10 digs.
Danville Invite -- Waubonsee went 0-3 on the day, losing to Lewis & Clark, South Suburban and Olive Harvey. Amy Mrazek had 10 kills and two blocks for the Chiefs, Kelsey Berg seven kills and 12 assists, Lauryn Pearson seven kills and 15 digs and Gabby Mendieta 15 assists.
Benedictine Invitational -- Aurora shot a team score of 303 and stands in fourth place after the first day of the tournament. Brandon Vicory shot a 70 to lead the Spartans while Aaron Orr carded a 76.
Northern Athletics Conference Tournament -- Aurora shot a two-day total of 798 to win the conference crown by 72 strokes over Edgewood. Emily Densmore and Kristen Richardson tied for fourth with 36-hole totals of 185, while Lindsey Pilmer was sixth with a 191. All were named to the all-NAC team.
