Dance team collecting old costumes
The Aurora Central Catholic High School dance team will be collecting old children's Halloween costumes. Families are asked to bring outgrown costumes to ACCHS, and dancers will categorize, package and then store the costumes for re-sale at a reduced price next Halloween season. The program is designed to provide a service and savings for families to purchase children's costumes for next Halloween at a substantially reduced cost.
Drop-off times are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 3 to 4 p.m. Friday at 1255 N. Edgelawn Drive. Enter by the Chapel.
Jefferson seeks crafters for fair
Jefferson Middle School is looking for vendors/crafters to be part of Jefferson's first craft fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 21.
Booth Rental is $20 for a 10-by-10 space, $5 for an 8-foot table to be provided and $5 for electricity.
All vendors are required to donate one item to be raffled, at a minimum of $10.
If interested, contact Assistant Principal Melena Gaspadarek at 630-301-5306. The craft fair is sponsored by the Jefferson Middle School's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports team and proceeds will benefit Jefferson students.

Teachers earn awards
Awards of all sorts were given to Sandwich teachers at Oct. 20's Sandwich School Board meeting.
Doni Morgan, third-grade teacher at Woodbury School, was presented an Award of Recognition by the Illinois State Board of Education. The award was part of the 2009-2010 "Those Who Excel" education awards program.
Amy Gomes, second-grade teacher at Haskin School, received $1,000 worth of classroom supplies provided by Office Max employees of Yorkville, including a new swivel desk chair, a camera, a printer and a large box of many other classroom supplies.
Sandwich School District 430 was selected as winners in the Wal-Mart Teacher contest. There were 10 $100 gift cards given to teachers for classroom supplies. The teachers were chosen through a drawing of names.
Selected were: Christine Wilke and Julie Warner, third-grade teachers at Haskin School; Ronnie Crane, reading teacher at Prairie View School; Doni Morgan, third-grade teacher at Woodbury School; Sheryl McAlearney, fourth-grade teacher, Linda Bright and Beckie Hoag, fifth-grade teachers, and Todd Schultz, fifth-grade band instructor, all at Dummer School; Joe Polera, sixth-grade language arts teacher, and Rebecca Bonneau, special education instructor at Sandwich Middle School.
The next Sandwich School Board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at Sandwich Middle School.
