Rosary free concert

The Music Department at Rosary High School will present its fall choral concert, "A Wish Turned Heavenward," at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28. The concert will feature performances by Rosary's Beginning and Advanced Choruses and Ensemble. On the program are works by Handel, Bach, Rachmaninoff, Rodgers and Hammerstein, and Duke Ellington among others. The choruses are directed by Tom Jesse. Ann Mary Wagner is the accompanist. Admission is free. Rosary is at 901 N. Edgelawn Drive.

Vendors needed for Jefferson fair

Jefferson Middle School is looking for vendors/crafters to be part of Jefferson's first craft fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 21. Booth Rental is $20 for a 10x10 space, $5 for an 8-foot table to be provided and $5 for electricity (limited space available). All vendors are required to donate one item for the drawing -- minimum of $10. Any vendor interested in participating should contact Assistant Principal Melena Gaspadarek at 630-301-5306 for more information. The craft fair is sponsored by the Jefferson Middle School's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports team and proceeds will benefit Jefferson students.

Marmion Fall Open House will be Nov. 1

Marmion Academy is hosting its Fall Open House for sixth, seventh and eighth-grade boys from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 1 at the school at 1000 Butterfield Road, The program begins with a presentation in the gymnasium. Families may then tour the campus and ask questions from the faculty and staff. There is no registration for the event. Contact the Office of Admissions, 630-897-6936 ext. 227.

Neuqua shares in grant to help fight drug abuse

The Cebrin Goodman Center in Skokie has recently made a significant investment in local high schools in an ongoing effort to help young people fulfill their potential as happy, healthy contributing members of society. Eighteen Chicagoland high schools, including Neuqua Valley, will share more $400,000 in grants over a three-year period to enhance their drug and alcohol prevention efforts.

The high school grants are part of a pilot program of the Cebrin Goodman Center and will fund a variety of drug prevention endeavors at the schools. Programming funded by the grants will include: public speaking events, activities to bolster parent involvement, public awareness campaigns, peer mentoring programs, online alcohol education courses and drug-free activity nights.

Recipients are the following high schools: Neuqua Valley, Buffalo Grove, Glenbard East, Glenbard North, Glenbard South, Glenbard West, Glenbrook South, Hoffman Estates, Lake Park East, Lake Park West, Libertyville, Lisle, Maine South, Maine West, Prospect, Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg and Vernon Hills. Involvement in the prevention contests program, along with several stages of participation, qualified schools to apply for the grants.

Jefferson to perform play Nov. 12 and 13

Jefferson Middle School students will perform the "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" at 7 p.m. Nov. 12 and 13.

Tickets for this adaptation of the C.S. Lewis classic are $5, but $3 for Jefferson students. The school is at 1151 Plum St.

With a cast of more than 50 students, the play is filled with danger, temptation, redemption and hope.

Aurora University open house Nov. 11

Aurora University invites prospective adult and transfer students to an information open house from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 11 in Dunham Hall at 1400 Marseillaise Place.

University faculty and staff will provide information about degree programs, financial aid, and admission procedures.

Indian Valley sponsors pancake breakfast

Indian Valley Vocational Center's SkillsUSA organization will be sponsoring a Pancake and Sausage breakfast from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 8 at the Sandwich Fire Station.
