Auroran convicted in girlfriend's beating
An Aurora man was convicted this week of severely beating his girlfriend in early in 2007.
Frederick Hampton, 42, of the 100 block of West Galena Boulevard, Aurora, was convicted Tuesday of felony aggravated domestic battery and misdemeanor domestic battery, the Kane County state's attorney's office said.
Jurors deliberated for about 40 minutes before reaching their verdict, prosecutors said.
On Feb. 22, 2007, in Aurora, Hampton pushed the victim against the wall, causing her to fall to the floor, prosecutors said. While she was on the floor, Hampton kicked her in the sides and head, causing a lacerated liver, a black eye and other bruises to her face and body, they said.
Hampton is scheduled to be in court again Dec. 10. He faces up to seven years in prison. He could receive probation.
Hampton still faces charges for aggravated domestic battery and unlawful restraint, as well as domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of a domestic battery in an separate domestic violence incident with a different victim, prosecutors said. He is scheduled to be in court for that case Nov. 18.
"This victim showed tremendous courage in showing up in court for this trial to face the defendant," said Assistant State's Attorney Nydia Molina, who prosecuted the case.
