Cell phone blamed in Yorkville crash

A Yorkville man was charged with improper lane use after a crash around 5 p.m. Sunday that was blamed on him trying to answer his cell phone, police said.

Benjamin Smith, 28, of the 600 block of White Oak Way, was driving near Fox Road and Morgan Street when his 2006 Acura crossed into the oncoming lane and struck a 2007 Acura driven by a 33-year-old Yorkville woman, police said. No injuries were reported.

$10K in jewels missing

Sometime between June 1 and Oct. 12, $10,000 in rings and other jewelry were taken from a home in the 700 block of North Commonwealth Avenue, Aurora police said Wednesday.


• Someone took a plasma TV, PlayStation 3 game console and a computer, all worth $2,100, from a home in the 400 block of Rosewood Avenue between 1:30 and 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Aurora police said.


• A garage door in the 1400 block of Golden Oaks Parkway was damaged sometime before 5 a.m. Sunday. Repair cost is estimated at $1,000, Aurora police said.


• James Harris, 42, of the 500 block of Rosewood Avenue, Aurora, was charged with felony obstruction of justice after his arrest Tuesday, Aurora police said.
