Anthony Stanford column was 'a breath of fresh air'

I am offended by the frequent columns written by Chris Lauzen with his all-too-partisan slant. Kudos to Anthony Stanford in his Oct. 21 column speaking up for the many of us who hold the Republicans responsible for their eight years of lack of regulation and oversight. He is a breath of fresh air for this newspaper.

The late Ray Watkins was 'faithful follower of the Lord'

I see that Mr. Ray Watkins passed away on Oct. 26. He was a great guy. We used to go to Bible study. What a faithful follower of the Lord. He is someone I look up as a servant of the Lord.

I know the world is a better place because Mr. Watkins was in it.

Wants politicians to stop stealing Social Security

I've talked to politicians for years. I've asked them why are they stealing from SocialSecurity. He says we're not stealing, we're putting an IOU right back into the treasury for it. Those IOUs have been going on for 50 years. When are these guys going to go to jail for stealing money from senior citizens that are now trying to get a good pension and trying to live decently? Keep your hands off Social Security. It doesn't belong to you, it belongs to the people of the country.

Praises Ward column on pro-life, pro-choice

I want to comment on Jeffrey Ward's column on the abortion debate. I must commend him for his sympathy even if it does scare him a little bit. Coming from someone who is pro-life, it is the first time I've ever read an article from the pro-choice point of view that I could actually agree with and found informative and very helpful on the subject. I greatly appreciated, coming from the opposing point of view, the offer of civility on the subject.

Doesn't like charging to honor service personnel

My husband and my oldest son are both veterans. My youngest son is currently in Afghanistan on his third deployment. You have had an article advertising an honoring of veterans and military. I am highly disappointed however that you would ask somebody to pay a $25 fee in order to honor these people.

High school columnist right on about public displays

Kudos to Shea Lazansky (a Beacon-News Our School columnist). I want to thank her for discussing PDA, public display of affection. It is ironic that 10 years ago I worked in a local high school around Chicago and I said to a young couple "get a room," which is what her article title was. I was called into the principal's office and I thought that because I am African-American the principal was resentful of my comments to this young lady about my values. Nevertheless, I had to hire a lawyer to help me keep my job. Good luck to Shea. Love her article.

Thinks he'll be paying more to school district

Unless I am not comprehending correctly I don't think today's (last Wednesday's) lead story is totally accurate. My house in Oswego Township was just reassessed. just over a $2,000 increase. I believe that means I will be paying more in taxes to the Oswego School District this June. Correct me if I'm wrong.
