50-year-old television was better than today's
Since I still have a roof TV antenna, I've reverted to watch 50-some-year-old TV after the DTV conversion. What an improvement over today's moral rot. The old "Rifleman" western series shows the best example of child rearing you'll find anywhere.Mel Dormer

Wants more pleasant stories in newspaper
Very nice article about the twin sisters formerly from Aurora. Both sets of twins were very well respected. We demand more pleasant items these days. Now Beacon-News, get out there and look for the pleasantries, not the doldrums. Give us some hope and blessings Wilma Hauer

Police chief's salary vs. that of the troops
I noticed in Oct. 18's paper the article that the chief of police at Northern Illinois University cleared $99,000 a year. How much are the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq getting?David Craig
