Global Warming

January 20, 2008

Republicans
Lauzen: Supports alternative fuels that will help the environment; opposes signing the Kyoto Accord, “because it exempts China and India.”

Oberweis: Supports alternative energy, including an aggressive shift toward ethanol-based fuels; supports incentives for conservation.

Dilger: Touts something called the “car caper,” which reduces CO2 production, and promises to offer “more information later.”

Democrats
Foster: Wants some in government to get passed notion global warming isn’t a man-made problem; greater technology needed to determine the extent of the problem; wants to offer government assistance for insulation improvements and replacing inefficient long-haul trucks with newer models that reduce carbon dioxide levels.

Laesch: Says Congress needs to pass laws to cap and mandate reduction in greenhouse gas emissions; once again suggests carbon emission permits as part of solution.

Stein: Plan includes, among other things, tax credits for use/production of alternative energy; promoting “real conservation;” implementing federal energy efficiency standards; sign the Kyoto Protocol; and negotiating a new international anti-global warming treaty.

Serra: Promotes exploration of renewable energy technology and sources.
