Canadian National exec to speak to area businessmen

May 9, 2008

A Canadian National Railway executive will meet with Naperville area businessmen next week on CN’s proposed acquisition of the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway.

Jim Foote, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Canadian National, will speak at a meeting of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce at 7:30 a.m. May 16 at the Hilton Lisle/Naperville.

The EJ&E line — which stretches from northern Indiana to Joliet and then heads north through Plainfield, Naperville, Aurora and Elgin — would experience an increase in rail traffic if the CN deal is approved.

Several area communities have voiced opposition to the sale because of the possible highway traffic congestion created at at-grade crossings. Registration for the May 16 program is $25 and may be made online at www.naperville.net or by calling (630) 355-4141, ext. 0.
