Fire strikes Yorkville home

November 11, 2009

YORKVILLE -- A fire Tuesday night at the home of a former alderman killed the family's dog, but no other injuries were reported.

The Bristol-Kendall Fire Protection District responded to a call for a house fire at 7:41 p.m. Tuesday in the 318 Illini Drive, the home of former Alderman Paul James.

Someone in the home smelled smoke and saw the lights flicker before calling 911, officials said.

Occupants of the home and neighbors were evacuated while firefighters extinguished the blaze.

Authorities said they believe the fire started in the rear of the home.
