Child found in pool in critical condition
A 3-year-old Aurora boy remained in critical condition late Tuesday at Loyola University Medical Center after he was found floating in his family's backyard swimming pool this past weekend, Aurora police said.
Officers learned that the boy was outside with his father, who was doing yard work at their home on the 200 block of Hampshire Avenue, when he wandered off around 12:10 p.m. Sunday. Police said the father believed his son had gone inside. About 10 to 15 minutes later, when the man and his wife realized the boy was not in the home, they began searching. They found him floating in the above-ground swimming pool, police said. The pool water was about 4 feet deep.
Family members and neighbors attempted to perform CPR on the child, and called paramedics. Aurora police were first to reach the small, beige home. They performed CPR on the child until paramedics arrived. He was transported to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, and transferred to Loyola, police said.
On Monday, a neighbor remained shocked by the previous afternoon's event.
"He's still in critical condition, you know," he said solemnly, a child of his own by his side. He was one of many neighbors who rushed to the rescue Sunday.
Aurora police said the mother and father were inconsolable after the accident. No one answered the family's door Monday afternoon.
Police say no foul play is suspected.
