The bulk of this section was constructed using Beacon News and Chicago Tribune articles from Jan. 14 to Feb. 25, 1925.

* The quotes, “One glance was all I needed,” “He has been telling first one wild yarn” and “Men much more schooled in medicine” are from the Jan. 27, 1924, Beacon.

* The quote “crazier than hell” comes from the Oct. 8, 1924, Beacon.

* As was tradition at the time, the names and addresses of the all the jurors selected for both the sanity hearing and the criminal trial were printed in the newspaper before the trial started. According to the Feb. 23, 1925, Beacon, the jury was made up of 12 men — six Aurorans; farmers from Campton, Hampshire, Big Rock and Maple Park; an Elgin retired foundryman; and an Elburn paint contractor.
