12 Bigs by Christmas: Power of 'role model'
Big Sister Danyel and her Little Sister Daniella just celebrated their first year match anniversary through Big Brothers Big Sisters.
This high-energy match packed a lot of activities into their first year: going to the zoo and putt putt golf, visiting museums and Kane County Cougar and White Sox games, and the BBBS summer picnic.
Danyel and Daniella did slow down one night around Halloween, which is their favorite time of year. They donned their costumes and stayed home to watch scary movies on TV.
Besides all the fun this match has had their first year, Danyel has noticed a change in Daniella. "Daniella is more confident and she is more outgoing," said Danyel, a former member of the Chicago Bulls dance team The IncrediBulls. Daniella has ventured out and gotten more involved in activities on her own.
Danyel now works as a youth counselor and said, "It's great to see the other side. I can just be a friend to a 9-year-old girl and talk about school, friends and other girl talk."
Next on the agenda is to volunteer as a match to help in some way for a coming charity event.
