WCC Award
Waubonsee Community College recently received the education award from the Aurora Council of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). LULAC is the largest and oldest Hispanic organization in the U.S., with more than 700 councils nationwide. Assistant Vice President of Student Development Melinda James accepted the award on behalf of the college, which is currently serving almost 2,000 Latino students in credit classes and almost 3,000 students in the English as a Second Language (ESL) program.

African-American
Nominations are being accepted through Nov. 20 for the "2010 Outstanding African-American Award" to be presented by the City of Aurora's African-American Heritage Advisory Board (AAHAB) in February. Agencies, organizations and community members are invited to nominate an African-American Auroran who contributes to the advancement of the African-American community. The award recipient will be honored at the Board's annual Heritage and Awards Dinner on Thursday, February 4, 2010. Christmas Bazaar
and Buffet
The Jennings Terrace Auxiliary will host the 52nd Annual Christmas Bazaar and Buffet Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Jennings Terrace Retirement Community, 275 S. LaSalle St. Admission and parking are free. Drawing tickets are available for a variety of prizes. Tickts are $6.50 per person and will be available for dining in or take out. Tickets may be purchased at the event or in advance. All proceeds benefit Jennings Terrace Retirement Residents.

Board Member Needed
Mental Health and Mental Retardation Services Inc. (INC) the local mental health authority for seven townships in southern Kane County, is looking for a south Kane County resident volunteer to serve on the community mental health board. This person must have a sincere interest in the issues of mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse. Meetings are six times a year. No fundraising and no compensation involved.
