NEWS ALERTS ::
Mia Hays, 20, watches her mother, Camille Spillone, and her daughter, Bella, 2, on Thursday at the home they share in Geneva. Hays ran away for nearly two months after feeling the stress from single parenthood. (Marianne Mather/Staff Photographer)
Mia Hays didn't have the storybook senior year of high school. Hanging out with friends, going to prom and graduation mean something completely different when you're pregnant. Being a mom at 18 does, too. "My main priority has been my daughter for two years," said Hays, now 20. "... It got to the point where I felt I was in prison in my own life." So she disappeared for nearly two months.

Title in sight for Rosary
At the start of the girls swimming and diving season, Rosary coach Bill Schalz simply said of his Beads, "This is a good group." That may have been an understatement, considering Rosary is again the favorite at this year's state meet, which takes place today and Saturday at New Trier High School in Winnetka.

Student tries using marketing to win wheels
DePaul University student Madison Hanna needs wheels. We know this because she says as much in the second video she made to promote her chance to win a brand-new, apple-red 2009 Volkswagen Beetle. "I consider myself a friend of the Earth, I really do," she says in her video appeal, now being shown on YouTube. “"I walk everywhere. But it's come to the point where I need some wheels -- desperately."
