RCG Photography a shot of owner’s passion

November 3, 2009

Kathy Green wants to see your child's inner swordsman or cowgirl. Green also wants to catch children chasing bubbles or jumping in the autumn leaves.

Green, a photographer from Geneva, is more than happy to follow children and families around to snap that perfectly imperfect moment.

"It is a view in time," she said. "That magical moment captured forever."

Kids picking raspberries, dads blowing bubbles, adults climbing trees — Green likes to preserve the beauty in life with her camera.

Mostly self-taught, Green has taken pictures for as long as she can remember. Her grandfather had a camera collection and her grandmother always kept a scrapbook.

It was only natural for Green to pick up her camera and capture those ephemeral moments for others as her three young boys grow, she said.

The busy mom said that taking her knack for photography into the professional world is the perfect solution for her own work-life balance.

Right now, Green shoots part time — mostly on the weekends — when her husband, an accountant, can stay home with the boys.

She prefers shooting out in nature at parks and forest preserves. The Japanese garden at the Fabyan Forest Preserve is one of her favorite spots. She also frequents Island Park in Geneva, Phillips Park in Aurora, and family homes and backyards.

A trademark of Green's is adding props to her photographs — wands, swords or red boots often show up in her photos. She tries to offer a fun, relaxed and fresh approach to lifestyle photography, she said.

Since Green started RCG Photography (after the first letters of her boys' names) in September, she is already receiving rave reviews for her artistic ability and her affordability. All of her business has been word-of-mouth, she said.

"I don't consider this a job, but rather a passion," she said. "I enjoy capturing beautiful moments and everyday blessings."
