STNG NEWS ALERTS ::
This picture of 4-year-old Charlie appeared on calendars and posters and adorned countless brochures and fliers that went everywhere from Springfield to Washington, D.C.

 (STNG)
This picture of 4-year-old Charlie, part of a 1993 photo series taken by Fox Valley newspaper photographers, was so compelling it went on to become the iconic image of the heart-breaking problem of homelessness. As Congress begins debate on reauthorizing legislation that resulted from the series, homeless advocate Diane Nilan would like to find Charlie and others from the series.

County fairs are one of the few venues that keep traditions alive, Bob Hamm says. Hamm, of Pana, Ill., knows traditions. For the past 14 years, he's thrilled fair and exhibition crowds with a tradition honed by the Hollywood Western -- gun twirling.

On a day he would shoot 3-under par 69 to take a three-shot lead heading into today's final round of the Aurora City Tournament, Jeff Kur said his highlight Saturday was a bogey.

The rider feels caged.

During All-Star festivities at Yankee Stadium last week, there was a growing buzz that general manager Jim Hendry deserved all the credit for the eight Cubs in uniform -- the most from one National League team since the 1960 Pittsburgh Pirates.

Where are they?

America's forgotten children, you are not forgotten. The pictures in the accompanying Photo Gallery are a few of the slew of homeless kids whose paths crossed mine at Hesed House. Kids who landed on our steps because their steps were gone. Kids I went to bat for, and cried over, laughed with and shushed to sleep.
