A government panel of scientists say most women don't need mammograms in their 40s, as the American Cancer Society has recommended for nearly two decades, and should get one every two years starting at 50. When it comes to their own bodies, however, local women think early detection is key -- and by any means possible.

Gov. Pat Quinn said Thursday that a tax increase he proposed earlier in the year would be the best way to help the Fox Valley's social services, some of whom have not received any state money in five months.
