Downtown holiday spirit

Waukegan Main Street decorated downtown Waukegan for the holidays after learning the city did not have the budget for it. Main Street assembled volunteers and put them to work Sunday morning. "Waukegan Main Street is working really hard to pull this together. Without Waukegan Main Street, it (holiday decorating) would have slipped through the cracks," said a Main Street board member.

Will it be Ellen DeGeneres, Dr. Phil or Dr. Oz? Maybe none of the
above. The announced shutdown of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in two years creates room for a new queen (or king) of daytime television.
Preparing to claim that audience will be one of the biggest competitions in television.

Bonato: It's been 247 days since Waukegan's bid for the 2009 IHSA Class 4A state championship ended in a shoulda/woulda/coulda loss to Young High of Chicago in the final game of the season. It will be another 118 days until our area finally ends a string of 102 years without capturing a state title in the sport of boys basketball.

Santas press for swine flu vaccine

Forget cookies and milk. Santa wants the swine flu vaccine. Many of America's Santas want to be given priority for the vaccine and
not just because of those runny-nosed kids. There's also the
not-so-little matter of that round belly. Research has suggested
obesity could be a risk factor.
