Someday, sandstorms and "sweating bullets" in 120-degree heat will be a distant memory for U.S. Marine Sgt. Darren Thul. Thul,
who will turn 25 on Monday, returned a week ago from a second
deployment to Iraq. In two months, he will have completed an eight-year
stint with the Marine Corps, the last four as a reservist with the
Waukegan Marine Reserve Unit. He is looking forward to finding a good job as a mechanic and settling into a more normal life with his bride, Angi.

Hey Swami: I saw this headline that said "Obama tells huge Dem crowd he'll fix Washington." Please tell me he meant Washington Street in Waukegan. I can't tell you how many hours of my life have been spent stuck at red lights on Washington when there is no other traffic on the road.
The News-Hound Whole world's watching
As Sen. Barack Obama accepted the mantle of his party last night in Denver, the convention partying ended and the presidential work begins. trustee Carol Zerba, a fan of the game that is popular in Florida,
suggested the park district establish a pickleball court.

Death penalty cases gamble on life, author Turow says
Best-selling author and attorney Scott Turow addressed the pros and

Smith: Credit card companies a need swift kick
Dear Scott: I know you take a dim view of credit card companies because
you have intimated in your columns. Is there anything that can be done
to bring interest rates on these things down, and is Congress doing
anything about credit card reform?
