The family of a 13-year old Waukegan boy is mourning his death after he drowned trying to retrieve a ball while swimming with friends in Lake Michigan near Waukegan Harbor. Grieving family members said Wednesday that Johnny Garcia was an active boy
who loved playing soccer with his two sisters and friends during his
free time. "We are so sad right now," said his aunt Irene Salgado through tears. "We can't believe this happened."

Sub-$4 gas a welcome relief
Lake County drivers were eager to fill up their tanks at local gas
stations Wednesday after fuel prices dropped below $4 for the first
time in months. There were long lines at many pumps in
Waukegan, North Chicago, Beach Park and Zion as the price for unleaded
gas plummeted to $3.99 or less.
Besides sunburn and parking, what can you get for free at the Lake County Fair? I wandered around the entire fair to find out and wound up with two bulging bags of freebies weighing about nine pounds total.

Moon-struck Grayslake teen wins trip to Space Camp
When Matthew Rasmussen's parents took him downtown to the Adler
Planetarium one afternoon in May, you can imagine his surprise when he
discovered the trip was actually to announce him as the winner of
ComEd's Shoot for the Moon essay contest. Rasmussen, 14, of Grayslake, was selected out of 450 entries to win the grand prize: a trip to Space Camp in Huntsville, Ala.

Beach Park, as she enjoyed a drink at Clover's in Waukegan on Wednesday. The
holiday in question is National Tequila Day, which is celebrated today,
and Illinois happens to be the fifth-largest tequila consuming state in
