When a chartered bus scheduled to take about 30 Aurora-area Army National Guard soldiers to basic training broke down Thursday, the delay gave the soldiers an extra hour and a half with family. And the time was appreciated. The soldiers, members of the 106th Cavalry Squadron are headed for Fort Riley in Kansas, and ultimately to Afghanistan.

Wheaton hostage suspect idenitified
Update, 8:35 p.m.: DuPage County Coroner Pete Siekmann identified the man who took hostages at a bank in Wheaton Friday afternoon. The man was identified as Michael Long, 41, of the 1400 block of Cantigny Way in Wheaton. Siekmann said Long apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head.

Two Aurora men were charged Wednesday in a July beating and robbery. Javier Almaraz, 23, and Robert Gaither, 22, were both charged with felonies robbery and aggravated battery for beating a man unconscious on July 26.

Somebody's going to be out of uniform. Either Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns or St. Charles Mayor Don DeWitte will be wearing colors they usually wouldn't be caught dead in at their Sept. 8 council meetings.
